Getting creative is always something I love to do, when Ra McRostie approached me to take the photos for her shoot, this was the perfect opportunity to get some creative energy flowing.
Ra is a dancer & drummer and has been traveling the world to introduce her own style of dance to enable her to create her own choreography and teach her style of funky African inspired dance here in Oamaru. She is also part of a Awherika which is a national group representing NZs best practitioners of African style music and dance.
We picked the shoot location to create some mood with the stark cold concrete and multitude of car parts, to be a total contrast to Ra’s organic & flowing nature. With the help of my lighting right man, Syd Lawson, we used 5 speed lights to create some mood and drama in our shoot.
This shoot needed a range of shots to be used in Ra’s marketing material in the future. We are trying to be a little unique to catch the eyes of event organisers for events such as Womad.
I enjoyed this shoot with Ra. We have a collection of other shots, but we thought we would share just a few of these for now. Enjoy like, share and stay inspired.
Good luck Ra, you will be awesome!
